A sugar glider is a small marsupial possum found in tree tops of Australia,Indonesia,Papua-new guinea, and also Tasmania. The sugar gliders are named due to the gliding membrane and they love sweet foods. They are in a subclass of mammal called marsupials. Marsupials can be found on open savannas like the wallabies and kangaroos, also in the tree tops gliding.

APPEARANCE
An adult sugar gliders head and body together measure about 5 to 6 inches in length. The tail measures in equal length. Sugar gliders are grey with a white cream colored belly. A black stripe runs from the top of the head down the gliders back. The last couple inches of the tail are also black.

FACIAL
The gliders ears are large, and also the eyes. The eyes are on the side to provide a wide angle of vision.

FEET
Each foot has five digits. The hind feet have a big toe, and also the second and third digits on the hind feet are partially fused.

TAIL
The tail is not used to grab, its used for balancing. The tail can control the direction of the flight.

GLIDING MEMBRANE
The membrane of skin is called a "patagium". The membrane stretches from the wrists to the ankles. When the glider is relaxed the skin is relaxed and it looks like extra skin. When the glider is in flight the membrane stretches and the glider looks just like a kite.

BODY WEIGHT
A full grown glider weighs about 4 to 5 ounces. The females weight? around 4 ounces . The males around 5.
